Boosting your immunity

I thought this week I would write about supporting the body to prevent the Coronovirus that is spreading itself across the globe rather worryingly. Boosting your immunity should always be a focus in what you are doing, but I’m just building on previous blogs that have outlined what to do with coughs and colds.

Clearly, from my perspective, your diet should be the first port of call, add a green vegetable juice because your greens are antiviral and this will also boost your magnesium and calcium levels.

I use doTerra On Guard Hand Sanitiser a lot anyway because I take it with me in my pocket when I’m walking the dog for after I’ve picked up the poo, and I use it in the clinic to sanitise the room after people have been. It’s great for using on vinyl surfaces, and door handles, etc.

doTerra On Guard, lavender and Eucalyptus are being diffused as we speak, this is an airbourne illness so helping to clear the air of pathogens will be helpful, I tend to have the diffuser on in the clinic waiting room just inside the door unless I know someone is coming for sensitivity testing. I have it on at home in the hallway as well, so everyone has to walk through it.

Use the On Guard Touch on your lymph nodes on your neck and across my chest check for sensitivity first. I believe this is one of the reasons I now rarely get ill and I feel it’s one of the best products I’ve come across in a long time. If I feel I need more support then doTerra On Guard Soft Gels are also a good choice although these are something to keep until you feel you really need it.

Citrus is antimicrobial and can be very helpful at this time of the year, add lemon to your drinks, a lovely hot lemon and ginger will open up the circulation, as well as help keep your immunity higher.

Add oregano as a herb with garlic to your meals for a double whammy of those pathogens, a garlic clove a day keeps the doctor away is often sung in the house. Thyme or sage is great added to a drink, steep and they could be helpful for sore throats and upper respiratory issues.

Sauerkraut helps to build up your good bacteria which are absolutely one of the most important areas for immunity, add a small amount into your diet.

Get out into the sunlight and get your vitamin D, if you are not sure where your vitamin D levels are at this time of the year, I suggest you get them tested. Vitamin D plays a major role in regulating the immune system, and at this time of year when we have been through winter, it’s the time of year when we are often most vulnerable.

Sleep helps to balance the body, and we all know how we feel when we are just not getting enough sleep, so get to bed early!

Cytoplan Honey Bee propolis is something to consider, propolis is found to be antiviral, and so can be helpful with that scenario.

Comvita Olive Leaf Extract can be very helpful for bacterial infections.

Reishi mushroom could be helpful to add to your foods and drinks because research has shown it helps with viral infections. I add some to soups and often to my hot chocolate which hides the taste.

Include the following foods in your diet: sweet potato, spinach, kale, carrots, mustard greens, collard greens, turnip greens. Swiss chard, winter squash, cantaloupe, bell peppers, parsley, broccoli, asparagus, and sea vegetables. Rich in beta carotene, vitamin A helps with the upper respiratory tract, and sea vegetables include a wide array of minerals including iodine which can be extremely helpful for destroying viruses.

Elderberry is fantastic with respiratory issues, so getting some elderberry syrup could be just what the doctor ordered. One of my friends realised recently that they had elderberry bushes on their land and this year will be making the syrup for the first time.

Cytoplan Omega 3 Marine Algae would be a good addition because the algae it contains has research showing it helps to support the body against viruses.

Of course, your antioxidant-rich foods such as those rich in Vitamin C should continue because they have good efficacy in helping ward off viruses, and that means eating your fruit and vegetables, lot’s of them and fresh ones ideally. Our society does not eat enough vegetables so we are leaving ourselves in a deficit of the antioxidants that they provide.
