On this weeks Food for Thought interview I am with Dr Octavio Rettig Hino-josa author of The Toad of Dawn who is a GP and surgeon, practising professionally at a care centre in Sonora Mexico. He has written a book that narrates his path of being addicted to drugs, to becoming a medicine man using ancient plants dedicated to the treatment of addictions.
Dr Octavio has written a book that is a fascinating read and outlines what an incredible journey he has had, he talks about this journey from addiction to where he is today in his approach as a Dr to resolving addictions. Dr Octavio has become an authority on the use of psychointegrative substances and their ability to heal a variety of illness’s and problems due to his own drug use and his own depth of addiction.
We discuss how The Little Toad of the Sonora Desert, the Otac toad, fits into a long line of healing, spiritual awakening, and esoteric exploration creating a rite of passage through ancient plants such as ayahuasca, iboga, then DMT. There are about 400 psychoactive plants in the world and
they’ve been used since ancient times for medicinal and divinatory purposes, and Mexico is rich in these plants.
