Dan Keown Interview

NHROn this weeks Food for Thought Deborah is in conversation with Dr Daniel Keown about his new book The Spark in the Machine: How the Science of Acupuncture Explains the Mysteries of Western Medicine. Dan Keown, who qualified in medicine from Manchester University in 1998, since then he has worked mainly in Emergency medicine, where he continues to work to this day. Throughout this time he has maintained a strong interest in the healing traditions of the East, especially acupuncture. In 2008 he completed a degree in Chinese medicine and acupuncture from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. He has also studied under the renowned Professor Wang Jui-Yi in Beijing.

Whenever possible he uses acupressure in the Emergency department.

Dr Keown is the author of a book on Chinese (and Western) medicine called The Spark in the Machine: How the Science of Acupuncture Explains the Mysteries of Western Medicine which shows that the acupuncture pathways are simply the fascial pathways and Qi the embryological energy that enables self-organisation.
